Discussion Panel
We are very pleased to announce a special panel discussion as part of the symposium program. Experts on software engineering from academia and industry will discuss the current state of search-based software engineering research, identify challenges to the research agenda, and assess the potential impact of SBSE on software engineering practice.
Lionel Briand
Simula Research Labs, Norway
Biography: Lionel Briand is the scientific director of the Certus centre for software verification and validation at Simula Research laboratory and professor at the University of Oslo (Norway). He is leading research projects on model-driven engineering and software verification and validation in collaboration with industry. He is the coeditor-in-chief of Empirical Software Engineering (Springer) and is a member of the editorial boards of Systems and Software Modeling (Springer) and Software Testing, Verification, and Reliability (Wiley). He was on the board of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering from 2000 to 2004. His research interests include: model-driven development, testing and quality assurance, and empirical software engineering.
Satish Chandra
IBM Research, Thomas J. Watson Research Center, USA
Biography: Satish Chandra is a research staff member at IBM Research. His research interests are in program verification, bug finding tools, and most recently, in program synthesis.
Sigrid Eldh
Ericsson, Sweden
Biography: Sigrid Eldh is a well known leader in the software testing field. With a M.Sc. in Computer Science, a Technical Licentiate, and more than 25 years of practice she is now aiming for a PhD in test design techniques. She also holds a diploma as an Organization/ Psychotherapy consultant. Having held many positions at Ericsson, HP, Governance and other type of companies, she is now working at Ericsson cross-company support for Process and Methods in Software Development, Integration and Verification. She was the co-founder of SAST, ASTA, ISTQB and SSTB. Through her work she has helped organizations, test managers and testers around the world to reach better quality.
Darrell Whitley
Colorado State University, USA
Biography: Darrell Whitley is Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Colorado State University. From 1993 to 1997 Prof. Whitley served as Chair of the Governing Board of the International Society for Genetic Algorithms. In 1999 ISGA merged with the Genetic Programming community to form the International Society for Genetic and Evolutionary Computation. From 1997 to 2002 Whitley served as Editor-in-Chief for the journal Evolutionary Computation published by MIT Press. In 2005 ISGEC became a Special Interest Group (SIGEVO) of ACM. In 2007 Whitley was elected Chair of SIGEVO.
Westley Weimer
University of Virginia, USA
Biography: Westley Weimer is an associate professor of Computer Science at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on improving software quality using static and dynamic program analyses, evolutionary computation, and human studies. His recent work on the automated repair of legacy programs using genetic algorithms has earned two distinguished paper awards, the IFIP TC2 Manfred Paul Award, and a gold human-competitive award.
Andreas Zeller
Saarland University, Germany
Biography: Andreas Zeller is a full professor for Software Engineering at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany. His research concerns the analysis of large software systems and their development process; his students are funded by companies like Google, Microsoft, or SAP. In 2010, Zeller was inducted as Fellow of the ACM for his contributions to automated debugging and mining software archives.
